Obituary

Ethel L. Ballom passed peacefully from this life the morning on March 23, 2019, after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her family. Ethel was born on September 13, 1931, in Elysian Fields, Texas, the daughter of the late Vinkler Jefferson and Willie Mae Sneed Jefferson. She attended the public schools of Elysian Fields and Bishop College in Marshall, Texas. At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Mt. Pleasant Church in Elysian Fields, Texas. She was a dedicated longtime member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas.She loved to sing hymns, sewing clothing and working in her garden. Ethel has dedicated her life to God, her family and helping people in need. Ethel worked for the Kansas City, Missouri School District as a parent liaison and for the Blue Hills Neighborhood Association as a community organizer. When her mother became ill with Alzheimer's, she uprooted her life to be her caretaker. Years later, the same illness would befall Ethel, and she fought the good fight for a remarkable twenty years after diagnosis.Ethel is survived by four children, Adrian Ballom (Dr. TeCora Ballom) of Mansfield TX, Edwin Ballom of Arlington TX, Jeffrey Ballom of Mesquite TX, Kenneth Ballom of Champaign, IL; five grandchildren, Stephanie Ballom eldest granddaughter, Terri Blackmon, and husband Joseph Blackmon, Larissa Ballom,  Kenneth Ballom, Kendrick Ballom; sister, Annie Jackson, brother, James Jefferson, half-sister, Fannie Reeves, and sister-in-law, Mary Blackmon Jefferson and Evelyn Ballom; two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie, brothers George Jefferson, Willie Vee Hill, Eddie Jefferson, Dorothy Sherrod, Minnie Jefferson.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 10:00  a.m.  Location: Cornerstone Baptist Church, 5415 Matlock, Arlington, TX with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Elysian Fields, TX.The family is grateful to Universal Home Health and to Sundance Senior Living for the kindness and care which they showed Ethel.
