Mrs. Margaret "Tiny" Smith was born June 4, 1932 in Garland, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Leo Bennett & Lucy Ann Lee. She gained her wings on January 7, 2021 in Mesquite, Texas. She had four brothers: Clyde, Earl, Joe Roy, and Garland Bennett, Sr. and one sister, Irene Van Hook, all preceded her in death.
From an early age, she professed her love for Jesus Christ. She was an active member of New Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, where she served as President of the Baptist Training Union, Sunday School Teacher, and was a proud member of the W.J. Shackleford Choir. She was voted Woman of the Year on several occasions as well as a fundraising soldier. She loved serving the Lord and was not shy about it. She also loved singing and listening to Gospel music.
She was united in holy matrimony to Claude Edward Smith, Sr. They were blessed with three sons, Johnny Edward Smith, Sr. Paul Edward Smith, Sr., and Claude Edward Smith, Jr. Johnny and Paul preceded her in death.
Margaret attended Dallas County Schools and subsequently graduated Cosmetology School. Soon thereafter, she began working at Zelma’s Beauty Salon, where she worked for more than 40 years until she retired. She and owner Zelma Joiner were life-long friends until the end. If you ever had the opportunity to get your hair done at Zelma’s Beauty Salon, you know there was never a dull moment. Margaret won countless awards at local hairstyle shows. She was a member of the Dallas Beauticians Association.
She is survived by one son, Claude E. Smith, Jr., and grandchildren: Johnny E. Smith, Jr., Cynthia Young, Carla Dennis, Meshel Kennedy, Keith D. Smith, Calandria Lee, Marshelia D. Smith, Santantra N. Smith-Holleman, Edward De Paul Smith, Paul E. Smith, II, Valarie E. Davis, Claude E. Smith, III, and a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. She will be deeply missed.
