Nellie Jones was born to the late Jessie Calloway and Lacenia Fuller Calloway on December 1st, 1939, in Summerfield, Louisiana.
Nellie attended Carter G. Woodson High School in Haynesville, Louisiana where she was the Salutatorian for her graduating class. Her education continued on to Grambling State University, where she received her Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education. Nellie taught for a period at Mayfield High, Homer, Louisiana and later pursued a career with Texas Instruments as an Assistant Engineer for 25 years.
Nellie married James Jones of Lisbon, Louisiana, November 17, 1962. To this union two daughters were born, Bridgette and Althea.
She was a faithful Christian and a member of Holy Spirit Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas under the leadership of Reverend Felder Howard. She was not only nurturing to her family, but to all she came in contact with. Her soul radiated a positive force which none could deny.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie and Lacenia Calloway; her sisters, Arlene Calloway, Hazel Calloway; brother, Raymond Calloway; nephew, Rodney Calloway.
Nellie departed this life on Sunday, August 8, 2021 leaving to cherish her memories; her husband, James Jones; daughters, Bridgette Harper (Stephen), Althea Jones-Yarbrough (Jeffery); grandchildren, Tenisha Gilbert, Zachary Blevins, Jeffery Yarbrough, Jr., Jailynne Yarbrough; sisters, Jessie Mae Luckey (Billy), Velma Calloway, Laurene Fields (James), Barbara Johnson; brother, Robert Calloway; nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of other relatives, family and friends
Rest in peace, precious soul. We love you dearly.
