Shirley Diana Brumfield was born on December 31, 1966, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Sally Pearl Brumfield and Charles Bromfield Sr. She spent some time in Mississippi as a child, but for most of her life, Fort Worth was home.
As the only girl amongst three brothers, Shirley held a special place in the family. Throughout her life, she marched to her own beat and spoke her mind freely. When friends and family wanted an honest opinion, and even when they didn’t, Shirley never failed to speak the truth. As she liked to say, “I keep things real.”
Shirley earned her education and job training skills through Job Corps and went on to hold a variety of manufacturing and warehouse positions. She was most content when immersed in a good story, whether experienced through the pages of a book or over the television screen. She also enjoyed listening to Gospel music, and her favorite tunes included Make Me Careful by Juanita Bynum and Take Me to the King by Tamela Mann. Especially happy times for Shirley were those spent in the company of her special friend and caregiver, Shawn Wilkins.
Her life was not without challenges, but due to her big, outspoken personality, Shirley was well-equipped to meet them head-on. When she fell ill a couple of years ago, her spirit still shined bright, and her parents, children, brothers, and other family members were grateful that they had an opportunity to provide her with care. The experience allowed them to slow down, take time to think about how important they are to each other, and enjoy precious time with Shirley, who will be in their hearts forever.
On Sunday, May 30, 2021, Shirley entered her enteral home of glory. She was welcomed by her big brother, Edward Earl Pounds.
Shirley leaves her cherish memories to her parents, Sally Pearl Brumfield and Charles Bromfield Sr.; two sons, Sedrick Brumfield and Roderick Brumfield; two daughters, Traci Brumfield and Shanta Brumfield; three beloved brothers, Charles Brumfield Jr., Daryl Brumfield (Denise) and Larry Holland; two special nieces, LaToya Jackson and Taqiyah Brumfield. She leaves behind several gifts for the world which are her 15 loving grandchildren. Shirley also leaves memories to a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
