The Legacy of Alex Williams Jr.
Alex Williams Jr. entered this world on April 25, 1973 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the only child of Alex Williams Sr., and Easter Williams. Alex attended Fort Worth Independent School District schools — the beginning of what would become a lifelong relationship — graduating from Polytechnic High School in 1991 where he was an athletics team manager and a captain in the ROTC.
After high school, Alex matriculated to Dillard University in New Orleans before returning to Fort Worth to attend Tarrant County College. That is where he met the love of his life, the former Tamara LoTise Huckaby. The two joined in holy matrimony on October 6, 2001 and remained a loving couple until his death.
Alex accepted the Lord as his personal Savior as a young man and he and Tamara placed their membership at Love Sanctuary Church of God in Christ where Alex served with integrity as a faithful Deacon and the head of the usher board. He was also a vital and vibrant member of the Men’s Ministry and a founding member of the Reaching Out to the Community (R.O.C.) Committee. Bishop R. L. Williams Sr., the pastor of Love Sanctuary said that “Alex was not only a member, he was one of my best members.”
Alex’s deep and abiding faith directed everything he did in life. Although he was born with sickle cell anemia, he NEVER complained about it or lamented his condition. Instead, he praised and worshipped God with his whole heart despite being in constant pain. And he did all he could to help others in his same predicament, serving for years as a dedicated counselor at the Camp Jubilee summer camp for young people suffering from sickle cell.
For 26 years, Alex worked for the Fort Worth ISD, serving as the security officer at his beloved Tanglewood Elementary. But he was much more than that. Alex was a guardian, mentor, advisor, co-worker and friend to thousands of students, parents, faculty and Tanglewood/TCU community members who all affectionately knew him simply as “Mr. Williams.” His signature weekly pronouncement of “Friday, Friday, good old Friday,” became a much-anticipated declaration at the school.
In addition to Tanglewood, another of Alex’s passions was the University of Texas Longhorns. Anyone who knew Alex knew that he bled burnt orange and white and no fall was complete without him and Tamara making the trek down to Austin to see the football team in action.
In fact, watching sports was one of Alex’s most treasured hobbies. He and his best buddy, Selwyn Crawford, spent many days together traveling across Texas and to other states to catch exciting sporting events and catch up on life. Sometimes Alex was in pain, but he didn’t let that ruin the moment or stop him from having a good time doing something that he loved.
On January 13, 2021, the Lord called Alex home. In addition to his wife, mother and father, others left to honor and cherish his memory are his father- and mother-in-law, Harrel and Elois Huckaby (Fort Worth); his sister- and brother-in-law, Tarrel (Huckaby) Jackson and Henry Jackson; nephew, Isaiah Terrell Jackson (all of Leander, TX); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
