Alfred Arthur Hillman, 71, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at his home in Dallas, TX. Alfred was born on September 26, 1949 in Orange, NJ to Alfred and Gloria (Hawthorne) Hillman. The family later moved to South Plainfield where he attended South Plainfield High School. “Skip”, as he was nicknamed, was very athletic. He played football, participated in track and field, sang in barbershop harmony groups, and was voted class athlete in his school’s yearbook. Alfred graduated from South Plainfield High School in 1968. After high school he attended Dickinson State University on a sports scholarship. There he met Colleen Lind and they married on April 21, 1973 in St. Roberts, MO. From this union, two children were born Shane and Lindsey. Alfred joined the military in 1969, which played an especially important role in his life. He held various positions and levels of responsibility from supply clerk to senior supply sergeant. Rising to the level of Sergeant E7 status, he retired as an Army Recruiter in 1991. Cobre Imports of Massachusetts moved him to Austin, Texas. There he joined Unity Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was a dedicated member of the choir and Brotherhood before being ordained as a Deacon. It was at this church, he met Anjeanette Sasser. They were married November 11, 2000 in Dallas, Texas. From this union, a daughter, Taylor was born. While living in Dallas he moved his church membership to New Born Missionary Baptist Church in Desoto, TX. Using his military experience, he worked in Security for Williamson Printing and Comerica Bank before finding a home at Hillside Village Mall. Alfred worked at the mall for over a decade. He ended his working career in July 2019, leaving Allied Universal Security Company at Hillside Village Mall. His hobbies included cycling, hunting, and fishing, more specifically fly fishing. In 2003, he joined Dallas Fly Fishers Club where he was currently serving in his second term as club President. Eager to share his love of fishing, he volunteered many hours of his time teaching and training others to fly fish or tie flies. He was also an Angler Education Area Chief with Texas Parks & Wildlife and a member of the American Legion Post 802. Alfred is survived by his son, Shane Hillman (Leslie) of Minot, ND; daughter, Lindsey Hillman (Alex) of Tampa Bay, FL; daughter, Taylor Hillman of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Paige and Ashton of Minot, ND; stepmother, Orbina Hillman of Columbus, GA; brother, Kirk Hillman (Tish) of Nazareth, PA; brother, Jeffrey Hillman of Clermont, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, DFF club members, and friends.
