ALMA JEWEL PRYOR, a cherished matriarch and devoted member of the community, passed away on January 31, 2025, just days shy of her 85th birthday. Born on February 12, 1940, Alma's impactful life can be defined by her unwavering faith, relentless dedication to service, and nurturing spirit.
As the Founding Pastor's wife for 61 years. of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, Alma played an integral role in the spiritual formation of countless lives. Her commitment to the church went beyond her title; she was the founding Director of the children, youth, and young adult ministry, where she infused energy and love into every program she developed. Her leadership was not limited to the ministry but extended to a variety of auxiliary activities, demonstrating her gift for organization and her passion for fostering community.
Alma’s commitment to her church community was paralleled by her deep involvement in the Dallas Regional District Association, where her husband, Pastor George Pryor, served as the moderator. She was also lovingly regarded as the President of the ministers' wives, standing beside her husband and supporting fellow leaders in their spiritual journey.
Beyond her vital role in the church, Alma was a licensed cosmetologist and a professional hairstylist, utilizing her artistic talents to enhance the beauty and confidence of those around her. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone through her as a buyer at the Dallas Market Center, where she combined her passion for fashion and beauty with her innate ability to connect with others.
Alma's legacy as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend is profound. She leaves behind a multitude of family members and friends who were touched by her warmth, wisdom, and generosity of spirit.
Her viewing will take place on Friday February 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Golden Gate Funeral Home located at 4155 South R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas, 75224. A funeral service honoring her life will follow on Saturday February 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 444 West Ledbetter Drive, Dallas, Texas, 75224 with burial at Laurel Land Cemetery Monday February 10, 2025 at 10 AM
