ALTHA MOORE

March 5, 1953 — June 7, 2018

Altha Faye Moore was born on March 5, 1953, in Crockett, Texas to loving parents Robell and Mary Ann Allen. At 6 months of age, she moved to West Dallas where she was adopted by her aunt, Merlissa Moore, and her uncle, Albert Moore.

Altha graduated from L.G. Pinkston High School in 1969 and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and a Master’s degree in Psychology. She was pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership. Over the years, life took her to the West Coast, but she always kept Dallas close to her heart. A resident of Cedar Hill, she was a lifelong educator, entrepreneur and neighborhood leader.

In 2016, Altha returned to her beloved West Dallas to begin community work as a GrowSouth AmeriCorps VISTA with the City of Dallas. As a VISTA, she assisted nonprofits and community organizations with grant-writing, fundraising, web content, and grassroots organizing. Altha believed there was no greater feeling than giving back and making a difference in a community.

She was preceded by her parents, Robell and Mary Ann Allen; aunt and uncle, Merlissa and Albert Moore; Siblings, Lincoln Allen of Dallas and Napoleon Allen of Bay Town, Texas.

Altha leaves to cherish in memory, siblings: Marcella Jackson; Maxine Allen; Bobbie Johnson; Billy Joe Allen, Red Pruitt– Allen; Redell Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and a VISTA family that will miss her dearly.

Altha will forever be remembered by her family, friends, and colleagues for her great sense of humor; positive attitude; gregarious laughter; kind, loving and beautiful spirit; and her lifelong passion for helping others.
