Alvin James Chism was born on July 30, 1946 in Dallas, Texas. He was born to the parents of Eartha Lee Rhodes Chism and Famous Chism. He is the 8th child of 11 children. James received his formal education in the Dallas Independent School District and was a student of the first graduating class of Franklin D. Roosevelt High in 1964.
In 1963, he married Mary Kirk and to that union 3 children were born, Andre Chism, Aubrey Chism and Deneen Anderson. In 1983, he united in marriage to Diane Greene and remained married until his demise. He was aftectionally called PaPa and shared unselfish love to Sherye Ashford, Gia Ashford, Tuneshia Bernard, Ivey Greene and Devon Greene.
James was a jack of all trades and a master of all. He was a licensed Electrician and retired with 17 years of service as a Master Plumber with the County of Dallas.
Being raised by Christian parents, James has been a child of God since a young age and was baptized in 1955. He was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church of which he received his Christian foundation. In 1980 he united with Greater Zion Baptist Church and was ordained as a Deacon under the leadership of the late Pastor Miller E. Johnson, Sr. While serving at Greater Zion, James was also ordained as Minister under Pastor Mark Johnson. His dedication included singing in the choir; however, his passion was serving as the President of the Community Outreach Ministry. In 2005, he reunited with Liberty Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W.T. Edmond and was there until God called him home.
His resume as a Servant includes being a strong, dedicated and active member of the Greater Rising Star District Association for over 15 years. He was a Spiritual Advisor for the Brotherhood Evangelic Board and participated as a speaker for many Christian Workshops. James leaves a legacy for being a great dad, brother, uncle, a man of integrity, mentor, strong Christian and friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents Eartha L. Chism and Famous Chism and his siblings, Nobel L. Jackson, Helen L. Jackson, James Henry Jackson, lrmagene Beasley, John A Chism and Helen Richmond. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, wife Sherye Diane Chism, children Andre Chism (Sheryl), Aubrey J. Chism (Diana), Deneen M. Chism (Tony), Sherye Ashford, Gia Ashford, Tuneshia Benard (Herman), Ivey Greene (Sharon), Devon Greene; siblings: Harold W. Chism, Mary K. Chism Traylor (Earnest), Kenneth Beasley, Freddie L. Chism (Patsy), Sister-in-law Faye Chism, 36 grandchildren, and 47 great-grandchildren. He bestowed his love to a host of many loving relatives and friends.
