Andra Marie Okonwu (Clemons) was called to Heaven on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at the age of 51. Andra was born on January 22, 1967, in Longview, Texas. She was the youngest of Norma Carter’s (deceased 2013) seven children. Andra graduated from Longview High School in 1985, and in that same year, she gave birth to her first daughter Shanise Scroggins (Clemons). She attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. In 1993, she earned her Bachelors of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Biology. In September 2001, a colleague introduced her to Chief Ude Okonwu. The two dated briefly. On April 25, 2002, the two of them became one. In January of 2003, Ude and Andra were blessed to welcome their daughter, Precious Ude. In 2010, she received the honor of being Teacher of the Year for the Dallas Independent School District. In 2011, she enrolled in Concordia University. After two years of hard work, she received her Master’s of Elementary Education in Curriculum and Instruction in 2013. Andra contributed 22 years of service as an Educator. The impact that she had on the students and staff was legendary.
Mrs. Okonwu is survived by: her husband of 16 years, Chief Ude Okonwu; her girls, Shanise Scroggins (daughter), Precious Ude (daughter), and Phoenix Scroggins (Granddaughter); and her sisters and brother, Cheryl George (sister), Jerry and Bonita Timmons (sister), Terry and Johnette Wheeler (sister), Billy Clemons (brother), and Terry Clemons (brother).
