Annie Marie Chappel, affectionally know as Ree, was born on June, 20, 1961 in Dallas, TX to the parentage of Josephine Chappel and Henry Gene Johnson.
Marie accepted Christ and was a proud member of New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late, Reverend Wesby, the late Pastor G.L. Price and currently under the leadership of Reverend Donnie Howse.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine Chappel, Henry Gene Johnson; sons, Charles “ Ping” Chappel, Kenneth “Big Red” Chappel and two brothers, Kenneth Johnson and Victor King.
Through Karen “Sugar Bear” Ford, Ree was introduced to Vee and they began dating July 7, 1995. On July 7,2017, they married.
If we were to take a journey through the life of Marie, you would find that Marie was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. She enjoyed life and she lived her life. She cared for her children, her two grandchildren and a special cousin, her God-son. She always extended herself to others and because of this, she allowed us to actually relax in the sense that we did not have to worry about anything because she had our backs. She loved hard and she fought hard. She’s known for saying “I said what I said and fight go with it.” Marie hated to see anyone taken advantage of, so she would speak up for you.
Marie loved to travel, gather and be amongst family, actually, her best moments were spent with her family. After her mother passed, she made a pack to check on her mother’s siblings and she always did. Marie had a bright and energetic personality that only a family could love. Marie touched so many lives. She would help anyone, feed you, cloth you and even give you shelter. Marie always had a way of making “a dollar out of fifteen cents”. Every Christmas, she came through for her immediate family and even had enough to extend her love to additional family members.
Later in her life, Marie was charged with a battle with her health. She accepted and conquered her health, she did not let it stop her from living and enjoying life. She was a fighter, she never questioned her battle, she just fought. Although Marie was fighting a battle of her own, she comforted and assisted others through their battles. She showed up to family gatherings because she wanted to be around her family as much as her health allowed. She checked on people even during times when she wasn’t at her best. Most of the time, if you asked how she was doing even during her rough times, she would say “I’m okay, I’m good”. Through it all she was a warrior, and it was family that made her difficult times much easier.
Marie is survived by her spouse, Vee Jones, mother in law, Vanessa Brousard, daughter, Rachel “Dacha” Chappel-Trotter (Shy); grandchildren, Renee’ Majors-Chappel, Nagarious Demmings (Arnelia “Baby Girl”), Quantavion King; great grandchildren, Rashad Chappel, Ri’Anna Chappel, NeRya Demmings, Ne’Miya Demmings, Ayren Demmings, Ahmir Demmings, Demi Hartfield, Kayden Stokely, Marquis King Chappel; and siblings, Betty (Lee), Debbie, Carolyn (James), Lois, Judith, Sandra, Linda, Margaret, Henry, Donahue, Tracy; aunts, Ruby, Lillie (Jay); an uncle, Luscious and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends .
