Artis Glyn Thomas, 68, gained his wings on Friday morning with the love of his life at his bedside.
He was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, the fourth of five children of Freely “Jack” and Jennie Mae Thomas. The family later moved to Dallas, Texas. His dear parents and one brother, LC, preceded him in death.
Artis attended South Oak Cliff High School, graduating in 1974. On September 17, 1977, he began employment with General Motors and worked faithfully for forty-five years.
Meeting his dream girl in 1984, Artis and Emily became best friends, married in 1986, and shared a beautiful life for thirty-eight years.
Artis grew up in Alta Mesa Park Baptist Church of Dallas before he and Emily united with the St. John Church of Grand Prairie.
Always a down-to-earth person, Artis was loved by everyone. Special times and memorable moments remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
Cherishing the memory of Artis is his loving and faithful wife, Emily, daughter Artisha Browder; two sons, Jeramie Whitaker and Broderick Battee; two sisters, Wanda Johnson and Theresa Sims (Paul); two brothers-in-law, Steve Stevenson (Audra) and Gerald Stevenson (Hortence), seven grandchildren, Jeramie Whitaker, Michela West, Jaeden Whitaker, Amari Browder, Hailey Whitaker, Jaylen Whitaker, and Jazmyn Boston. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends lovingly remember Artis.
