Asberry Buddy Holt III was born April 2, 1950, to the late Asberry B. Holt Jr and Luberta Baker Holt. Asberry received his formal education in Cleveland Independent School District. Asberry graduated from John Hay High School in 1968. After graduating Asberry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Asberry did a brief stay in the Navy Reserve for about 2 years. In February 1973 Asberry started his life journey with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
On April 26,1974, Asberry was united in Holy Matrimony to Velmor Phelps, to this union two sons were born, Christopher Valdez Holt and Asberry Buddy Holt IV.
Asberry continued working several different positions for Southwestern Bell ranging from lineman, cable slicer, switchman, T. carrier and served as a Chief Union Stewart for CWA. Meanwhile, Asberry attended Mountain View College studying Public Speaking and Communications. While attending Mountain View College Asberry met his late Pastor, Rev. S.B. Jackson. Asberry later joined and became a member of New MT. Zion Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. S.B. Jackson in 1976.
After retiring from SWB, Asberry helped start up Light Speed Trucking Company. After that adventure, Asberry joined the Golden Gate Funeral Home working in the crematory department.
Asberry was a member of the Voices of New MT. Zion Choir, as well as a member of the brotherhood. Asberry served wherever his service was needed in the church. Under the leadership of Elder Earl D. Thomas, Asberry was ordained as a Deacon in 2021.
Asberry loved to fish and hunt with his late pastor Rev. S.B. Jackson and his close friend the late Al Smith and Dr. Fred Thomas.
Asberry joined the Oak Cliff Redskins Organization under the direction of the late Head Coach Larry Oliver. During his time with the Redskins as Head Coach, Asberry won a national championship game in 1996.
Asberry was preceded in death by his parents, (1) sister, (1) brother, (2) grandsons, Jaxson Holt and Asberry B. Holt V.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: (3) sons, Christopher V. Holt of Humble, TX, Asberry B. Holt IV of Dallas, TX and Jimmy Boykin Jr. of Dallas, TX; (2) daughters, Elkia Holt of Dallas, TX and Tykemah (Devonte) Poole of Cleveland, Ohio; (5) grandsons, Zahran Jones Holt, Keyshawn Holt, Keandra Holt all of Dallas, TX, Jeremaih Holt of Houston, TX, Gabriel Holt of Humble, TX; (3) granddaughters, Makayla Thomas of Dallas TX, Meckenzee Holt of Houston, Tx and Shyla Holt of Humble, TX (1) great-granddaughter Naomi Holt of Houston, TX; (1) brother, Richard Shipley of Cleveland, Ohio; (1) Aunt Viola (Aaron) Davis of Chicago, IL; (1) nephew, Aaron (Mikel) Washington of Savannah, GA, Erica Marshall Holt of Dallas, TX, Velmor Davis of Duncanville, TX; New MT. Zion P.B. Church, Golden Gate Funeral Home Staff and all other family and friends. Special Acknowledgement to his long-time friend, Dr. Fred Thomas.
