At 6:49 A.M. on May 21, 2016, Sister Bernevia Shirden Chandler peacefully surrendered her life, making her transition to her eternal home, a city called Heaven.
She was born June 29, 1934 in Crockett, Texas to the late Sheriff Shirden and Myrtle Lee Harrison, who preceded her in death.
Bernevia received her education in the Crockett Independent School District.
She graduated from Crockett Colored High School in Crockett, Texas.
On December 23, 1956 she united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Jewel Chandler and this union was blessed by Sherilyn. She later attended Nursing School where she became an LVN. She was able to put her nursing skills to good use. She worked in places like âThe Children Orthopedic Hospitalâ on Ross Ave, Gaston Hospital on Gaston. The last job she served as LVN for 9 years was at the VA Hospital on Lancaster Rd. In 1973 she had major surgery and while at home recuperating God led her to write a book. The book was entitled, âThe Tragedy that Followed When Two People Fell In Loveâ. In July 1978, the Lord sent her to Full Gospel Holy Temple on South Ewing Avenue in Dallas, Texas where she was saved and filled with the Holy Spirit under the leadership of Apostle Lobias and Evangelist Shirley Murray. She began writing the book in 1973, but it wasnât published until 1996.
And the VA is where she retired from in 1996. But her work didnât stop there;
she later began working with the Meals on Wheels Ministry at Full Gospel. She eventually became the Treasurer, and served faithfully until her health began to fail. She would make phone calls to sale tickets for their Dinner Theater which would fund the ministry. She loved her husband, and family but not just her family, but her neighbors and her friends as well.
Bernevia was also preceded in death by her brother Billy and her sister Vanevia.
Bernevia leaves to cherish her memories: Jewel Chandler (husband of 59 years); daughter, Sherilyn Johnson; granddaughters, Alisha and Merelisha Joyhnson; great grandson; Donald, great granddaughters; La’Shay, La’Keeia, Sha’Kira, Oscar and Mary.
