Mrs. BERNICE PRATT GILLUM known as “Sis”, was born on November 7, 1930 in Navasota, Texas, Texas to the parentage of the late Mr. Lourine Pratt and Mrs. Ella B. Pratt Robinson. She was raised by her parents to be God fearing. She confessed her belief in Christ and became a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church (better known as “Red Hill” in Retreat, Texas) at an early age.
Sis received her formal education in Navasota. The family later moved to Ovilla, Texas, where she united with the True Vine Baptist Church.
Sis met and married the late Sherman Gillum in 1948. To this union she was blessed with seven children. Two proceeded here in death (Glenda Gillum Miller and Charles Harvey Gillum).
For over 40 years, Sis was employed as a Domestic Engineer around the Desoto, Red Oak, and Ovilla areas.
Upon moving to Dallas, she united with the Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Hosea T. Epps.
Sis was a loving and caring person who never met a stranger. She was always helping others. She will truly be missed.
Sis is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Shirley Jackson, Booker T. Pratt, Frank (Joe) Robinson, Jr., Floyd Pratt, and Herbert H. Pratt.
Sis leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy: four daughters: Marietta Gillum Shead, Wanda Jean Gillum, Vickie Lynn Gillum, and Paula Dianne Gillum; one son: Leonard Earl Gillum; sisters: Pearl E. Williams and Velma Mae Derrough. A host of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great, Great Grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
