BERTHA JACKSON

Bertha Lee Robinson Jackson, affectionately known as “Bert “was born to the parentage of Robert Lee Robinson and Sarah Geddies Robinson, in Jacksonville, Florida on January 29, 1952. Being an only child Bertha was the apple of her parents’ eye.  At the tender age of 11, Bertha loss her Mother due to a heart attack. She continued to be reared by her Father and went on to graduate from Matthew Gilbert High School.

In 1969, Bertha gave birth to her first child, Angelita Robinson. She later birthed her first son, Sidney followed by her baby girl, Sarah who she named after her late Mother. In 1979, she married Herman Jackson. To this union was born her baby boy, Devlin Jackson.

Bertha decided to pursue a higher level of education and obtained her Associate’s Degree in Business Management from Tarrant County Junior College.

Bertha faced many challenges in life and overcame numerous hardships. Her greatest accomplishment was accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior in 1991. She started her spiritual journey at the New Life in Christ Christian Church in Jacksonville, Florida, under the leadership of Pastor Ivory L. Winfrey. In that same year she married Earl Jackson.

Bertha later became a member of the New Fountain Chapel A.M.E. Church, under the leadership of Reverend Wendell C. Webster, in Jacksonville, Florida. She served on the Usher Board. She also served as a Stewardess and worked in the Church daycare.

Bertha enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows, listening to music and traveling.  She was a member of the Silver Sneakers fitness program at the Huguley Fitness Center in Burleson, Texas. Bertha valued time spent with family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

Throughout her lifetime Bertha was both a Floridian and a Texan living in both states at various times. She became a permanent resident of Texas in 2017.  Due to complications resulting from Covid-19, Bertha passed on December 17, 2020 in Fort Worth, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her Mother, Sarah Geddies Robinson, Father, Robert Lee Robinson, and former husband Herman Jackson.

Left in the caring hands of God are Husband, Earl Jackson; Children: Angelita Dowsey (Eric), Sidney Madison (Serrenna), Sarah Mitchell and Devlin Jackson; eight grandchildren: Kasha Dowsey, Keith Griffin, Marvis Taylor III, Antwain Dowsey, Jasmine Goff, Kerah Crutchfield, Sidney Madison Jr. and Breeland Madison; and nine great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
