Charles Robert Adams was born on February 17, 1932 in Dallas, Texas to the parentage of the late Comer Adams & Etta Benjamin. Charles accepted Christ later in life. In the early childhood years Charles started playing music by ear at the age of six. He had a passion for music. He recalled playing music he heard from the old 78 RCA and Victrola during the Blues & Boogie Woogie Era 1937 – 1940’s.
He attended B.F.Darrell Jr. High school where he learned to read music under Madame E.M. Pratt, a distance cousin. Charles attended Booker T. Washington High School. His favorite subjects of education were Physics, Chemistry, and Math with a passion for music. He joined the band in which he learned to play several instruments with the piano being his first choice in addition to the baritone horn and trumpet.
Charles joined the United States Air force immediately after High School at the age of 17. He served during the Korean War from 1949 – 1953. He became an aircraft mechanic, specializing in hydraulics. Music led him to New York where he attended Cambridge College of Radio, Television & Music. He lived there briefly and shared some special opportunities during his musical interest. Opportunities to meet various Artists like: T- Bone Walker, James Brown, B. B. King, Ella Fitzgerald, Little Willie John, & Bobby Blue Bland and others. He enjoyed the blues like Stormy Weather, God Bless the Child and Strange Fruit. Charles attended Bishop College in 1957. He met the late Pauline Hodge in 1959 and later united in marriage. To this union one son Gerald Adams and five unique daughters were born: Rita Adams DeVine (Rev. Floyd), Nita Adams Walker (Marcus), Paulette Adams Johnson, Charlette Adams Reece (Gary), Freda Adams Brown (Edward).
He leaves to mourn one sister Rae Dean Simmons; one sister preceded him in death Edith Benjamin, One niece LaRae Simmons, three nephews: Stacey, Troy & Coreren, one special brother-in-law Glen Hodge, sisters-in-law, 8 grand children, and 8 great grandchildren, a host of relatives, special friends Rosa Langston (caregiver) Kenesha Green (caregiver) special friend (the late) Elizabeth Washington.
