Charles J. (Charlie) Miles, Sr. was born June 24, 1939 in Richland Texas, to the parentage of Austin Sr., and Ollie Dawson-Miles. Charlie received his formal education at Calvert Colored High School where he was a football star. Everyone loved to see Charlie J on the field. He loved his alma mater! He was a member of the Calvert Colored HS/WD Spigner HS Alumni association. He was very active in his Alumni and attended all the high school reunions. He looked forward to coming back home and seeing his family and friends and just enjoying life! He was active in his alumni until his health failed.
In his adult life, Charlie moved to Detroit Michigan to pursue higher education. He attended the University of Michigan. During his pursuit of the game, he played on the practice squad of the Pittsburg Steelers. This opportunity led him to his goal of professional football. Charlie played professional football with the Detroit Lions from 1958 – 1960.
While in Detroit, Charlie met and married Judy Ann Sanders. To this union four children were born: Charles Jay, Jr., David Darnell, Raymond LaNell, and the apple of his eye, his only girl – Mary Ann.
After leaving Michigan, he returned home to Texas and relocated in Grand Prairie, Texas. He worked at, and retired from Vought International in Grand Prairie Texas.
Charlie was a Soulful man. He lived his life his way. He was a spiritual man and he believed in God and the power of His promise.
As he transitions to his eternal life, he leaves to cherish his memories: wife of 55 years, Judy Ann Miles, Desoto Texas; only daughter, Mary Ann Miles-Archible (Raymond), Raleigh, North Carolina; two sons Charles Miles, Jr. (Helga), Arlington Texas; David Miles, Desoto Texas; two sisters, his twin – Sudie Matthews (Paul), Fort Worth Texas; and Ruth Franklin, Mesquite Texas; one brother Woodrow Miles, Fort Worth Texas; devoted niece Lorretta Brown (Dwayne), Mesquite Texas; three sisters-in-law, Katherine Malone and Dreama Dotstry, Detroit Michigan; Anita Hawkins, Henderson, Nevada; two brothers-in-law, Ernest Sanders and Edward Gant, Detroit Michigan; and lifelong friend Leon Bowman.

Charlie’s branch yielded many limbs including 10 beautiful grandchildren and 17 great grand children. He has countless nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly and will miss him forever.
Charlie J had a boisterous personality and he was the life of our family gatherings. With that million dollar smile, he would light up every room he entered. He loved life and life had been good to him. Now, he has earned his rest. We all loved him and will truly miss him, but God loved him Best!
