August 27, 1939 — September 25, 2024

Charley Roswell Howard, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on September 25 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born on August 27, 1939, in Belton, South Carolina, to the late Robert and Laura Jones.

Charley received his schooling at Geer Gantt High School. Afterwards, Charley dedicated 24 years of his life to serving in U.S. Air Force, where he honed his skills and expertise as an aircraft mechanic. While serving in the Air Force he married the love of his life, Barbara Howard. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career; he also spent 16 years as a vehicle mechanic and worked at  U.S. Post Office. Charley’s industrious spirit was further complemented by his education, having earned an Associate Degree in Business from Tarrant County College after graduating high school.

Charley was a member of Berea Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Superintendent of the Sunday School, a member of the Usher Board and a member of the Finance Department.

Known for his charismatic personality, wit, and caring nature, Charley was the embodiment of a loving family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Howard; his children, Tony Howard (JoAnne Howard) and Charles Howard I (Tonya Howard); his granddaughter, Ashanti Howard; his grandson, Charles E. Howard II; and his great-grandson, Charles E. Howard III. Charley also leaves behind his siblings: sisters, Florence Crosby, Bettie Sanders, Bertha Burns and Alice Swellings, as well as brothers, Walter Jones and Frank Jones; and brother-in-law Charles Rand.

Throughout his life, Charley took great pride in his many accomplishments, particularly reveling in the joy of traveling across the country and fluently speaking five different languages. He touched the lives of many with his loving nature and remained actively involved in the lives of his family, who were the light of his world. He will be remembered for his strong voice.

Charley was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Laura Jones, his sister Barbara Jeans Jones, and his brothers-in-law Donald Miller and Sylvester Sanders.
