CLYDE MCCLENDON

May 16, 1928 — January 18, 2024

Clyde Louise Moses was born in Wilson, North Carolina on May 16, 1928 to Sandora Moses and James Hall. She was only 15 years old when her mother died and was raised by her grandmother Livinia Moses. As an only child, she found a sibling attachment with her first cousins Constance & Jerome Williams and Gloria & Crevon Moses who also shared the rearing from their grandmother.

Clyde graduated from Darden High School and remained a devoted alumni attending reunions for over 70 years. She married young and moved to Amityville, New York with her first husband Marcelous Cooper. After her marriage ended, she moved to Queens NY, with her cousin Rose Wheeler, soon after she gave birth to her first born a beautiful baby girl that she named Sandra Renee.

While planting roots in Harlem she met her true love, Robert McClendon. They were married and joyfully welcomed daughters Sharon, and Pam into the world.

A woman of vivacity, style, and grace, Clyde crafted her own fashions and took pride in her labeled wardrobe. She also worked as a social worker with the Morningside Head Start Program, leaving an unforgettable mark on both parents and children.

Her love for travel knew no bounds and she relished sharing cherished memories through conversations or her photos and scrapbooks. A Mets baseball team enthusiast, supporter of all high school sports, an avid fan of roller derby games, Barack Obama, word find puzzles, and COCA COLA CLASSICS sodas, Clyde lived a life rich in diverse passions.

In 1993, she embraced a new chapter and moved to Dallas, Texas. Affectionately known as “Granny” in East Dallas, she lovingly raised two of her grandchildren, extending her warmth to the entire neighborhood and beyond. She volunteered at a neighborhood daycare center and dedicated herself as a board member of Habitat for Humanity.

Clyde is preceded in death by her husband, Robert McClendon (1981), and eldest daughter, Sandora Cooper (2023). She is survived by daughters Sharon Fordham (Rodney) and Pam McClendon, grandchildren Tracey Cooper, Domonique Hollins (Sean), Davon McClendon, Damon McClendon, Desmond Olivaria, Donnell McClendon, Chloe Love (Andre), and 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

May her vibrant spirit and enduring love live on in our hearts.
