REMEMBERING DEE
Mrs. Demetria "Dee" Louise Rutledge 53, is the fifth daughter of the late Linwood L. Baker Jr. and Barbara J. Baker. She was born on January 27, 1970 in Lubbock, Texas. On the 3rd day of October 2023, Dee transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home after a courageous battle with stage 4 breast cancer. Dee graduated from Socastee High School in 1989. After high school Dee worked at many businesses in the Myrtle Beach area over the years that she lived in South Carolina. Dee met her husband, James in 1987 and the two later got married and remain together until her passing.
Dee was a very beautiful person inside and out. She was always the comedian no matter where she was at. She always had a way of making you laugh. She made numerous friends wherever she went. She captivated you with her humor and her smile. She will be remembered for the laughter and joy she brought to all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Dee was very talented. She had an eye for decorating and was a great hairdresser. Dee loved to look good and would never go anywhere without looking good from head to toe. She loved spending time with family and playing bingo.
In 2021 after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Dee underwent a mastectomy and multiple treatments of chemotherapy and radiation. On June 21, 2021 Dee completed the therapy and was able to ring the cancer bell to celebrate her completion of therapy and being cancer free. Unfortunately, later her cancer would return with a vengeance and Dee would succumb to the illness.
Dee is preceeded in death by her father, Linwood L. Baker Jr. Dee leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Barbara J. Baker, her husband, James Rutledge Jr of South Carolina, 5 sisters, Lesia Walker (Londell), Sheila Crockett, Charlotte Smith, Trina Crosby (Marlon), and Kimberly Small (Calven), two sister-in-laws, four brother-in-laws, a mother-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family and friends.
