Ernestine Roddy Taylor was born June 6, 1939, in Whitewright, Texas to the union of the late Claude William Roddy, Sr. and the late Vernie Mae (Rice) Roddy.
She grew up in Whitewright, Texas and attended school in the Dallas Independent School District.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a true and devoted believer.
She met and married Franklin Guess. To this union one child was born. Mr. Guess preceded her in death.
She met and married Charles Young. To this union two children were born. Mr. Young preceded her in death.
On September 16, 1967 Ernestine married Willie George Taylor, Jr. and to this union one child was born. She enjoyed a rich and long life with her husband and family in their home in Dallas, Texas.
Ernestine’s love language was acts of service and she enjoyed making the world and her community a more beautiful place. Whether she was bowling with the Happy Hopefuls, delivering meals to the elderly, volunteer assisting in genealogy research at the Dallas Public Library, preparing snacks for the Cedar Oak’s Homeowner ‘s Association, working in her garden, making her famous chicken salad or banana pudding, or sharing her love of God with others she did it with joy.
A bright, witty, and gregarious spirit who never met a stranger, Ernestine was truly larger than life. Her willingness to open her life to others and to share her home, her food, and her love was truly a gift. She will be missed by many.
Ernestine, also affectionately known as “Aunt Erne,” “Erne,” “Tina,” or “Stine,” leaves to cherish her memories: her beloved and devoted husband, Willie G. Taylor, Jr., her daughters, Shelia Bowen, Sherri Taylor; her sons, Carlos Young and Darryl Young; her sister Alice Jones (Kerry); and 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
