Essie McCartney was born in Hillister, TX. She was the third of four children to bless the union of Frank Edward Foster and Jerlean (Arline) Foster. Essie was born on March 7, 1950. She departed this life on April 26, 2023 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, TX. Essie was a lifelong quietly devoted Christian dedicated to serving God by serving others.
Essie graduated Valedictorian from Scott High School in Woodville, TX in 1968. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts of Clothing and Textiles degree from North Texas State University in 1973. Essie chose to cultivate a career as a successful mortgage professional and retired from Key Bank in 2008.
In 1970, she joined Howard McCartney in holy matrimony. The two have been lifelong friends, and college sweethearts. One child, Kendra McCartney, was born to this loving union. The family settled in Arlington, TX before relocating to Cedar Hill, TX. Essie was an active member of St. John Baptist Church. Her ministries included, usher board, youth education, and outreach work at the Hope Center.
Essie demonstrated an insatiable desire to be of service to those around her. She had a kind heart and a listening ear for all of those that she met. Many will recount Essie’s gentle and welcoming nature. Despite enduring challenges throughout her life, she was always compassionate, empathetic and giving.
Essie was preceded in death by her: parents; brother, Frank Earl Foster (Connie); sister, Velma J. Burrs (Al T. Burrs, Sr.); nephew, JR Foster; and niece, Constance Moye.
Essie leaves to mourn, her husband of 53 years, Howard E. McCartney; her daughter, Kendra L. McCartney; her brother John Foster (AJ) of Huntersville, North Carolina. She also leaves nieces, Demetra Burrs, Michele McKinley, Deaquanita McCartney, Melody Harris, Christine McCartney, Ashley Foster; nephews, Michael McKinley, Al T. Burrs, Jr., Robert Burrs, Kevin Releford, Deddrick McCartney, Terry Foster, Steven Foster; along with a host of other relatives and close friends. She was able to help and nurture all of those around her. She is loved and will be greatly missed.
