Lovingly known to many as Ms. Ethel & Mother Johnson was born on October 21, 1934 in Hallsville, Texas to John Richard and Willie Mae (Hester) Dye. The Fifth daughter of five beautiful girls, three girls Vernilla, Jimmie and Rose preceded her in death, only one remains. Her loving parents prepared her for a Christian journey at a very young age; she joined and were baptized at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Hallsville, Texas.
After finishing her High School Education in Hallsville, Mother met and married the love of her life, Mr. Luther Timothy Johnson. Some years later they moved to Dallas, Texas for better jobs and housing. To this union seven children were born. Two sons, Luther Darnell Johnson and Reverend Mark Wayne Johnson. For the betterment of her family she worked during the day and attended Allstate Business College at night where she received her certification in Business Administration. After graduation she secured a job at Texas Department of Public Welfare known today as Texas Health and Human Services.
Mother joined Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Alexander McKnight. Later Hopewell called Reverend Tommy Brown as pastor where she served in numerous auxiliaries. During her lifetime she also was a member of Ebenezer Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Arthur Smith. In August of ?? 1998 she rejoined the Hopewell and served faithfully on the Usher Board and Mission Department until her health fail.
Mother Ethel Johnson retired from the Dallas Housing Authority in 1993, but never retired from working in her community where she resided. She cherished helping everyone. She was known as the go to lady on housing questions in the community. She became a friend and mother to everyone she met.
When we reflect back on the dash between Mother Ethel Rean Dye- Johnson life, there you will find the precious memories of A Life Well Lived; a full, joyous life of seeking God’s Glory.
There are many who remain that will love and cherish the memories of Mother Johnson:
One Sister, Bessie Boyd, South Heaven, Michigan.
Five Children, Evelyn Washington, Debra Brown, Richard Johnson, Reverend Darryl Johnson (Betty), Tameka Johnson and one God-Son, Pastor Roy Locke (Mae Dean)
Thirteen treasured grandchildren: Christopher Johnson, Stratford Washington, Luther Johnson, Johnny Brown, Jr., Johnnie M. Brown, Tasha Johnson, Darryl Johnson, Jennifer Johnson-Elam, Christopher Johnson, Kierra Scott, Chuntinece and Rashad Henderson, Jerrica Johnson, all of Dallas, Texas
Eighteen great grand-children: Stratford Washington, II, Darius, Jaden, William, Korrie and Johnny Brown, Amiri Johnson, Kayla and Morgan Elam, Nahla Harper, Zyana Moore Harmoni Browner, twins Kentrevion and Kristopher Dunn; Kristopher preceded her in death, Chaneria, King, Markeill, Kourtney and Tarell Johnson, all of Dallas, Texas
And a host of nieces, nephews and a numerous Great and Great-Great nieces and nephews, and friends remain to reflect back on the precious memories of the dash “A Live Well Lived”. Amen
