FRANCES REYES

May 18, 1928 — March 5, 2020

“Our beloved Aunt Frances was born on May 18, 1928 to Herminia and Luciano Reyes in the Little Mexico section of Dallas, TX. She was born with her twin sister Paulina, who did not survive to adulthood.  She was born into a large loving family deeply impacted by the austerity of the Great Depression.  She lost many siblings in childhood and was devastated to lose her father at a very young age.

Her devotion to her mother was unmatched and she did all she could to support her family even as a little girl.  She used a little red wagon to deliver quilts and blankets made by her aunt so that she could help her mother.  She remained very close to her mother and remained by her side until she too passed from this earth.

She grew up to become a person of deep personal faith and as long as her health permitted attended Mass on a regular basis.  She was an active parishioner of many churches including St. Edwards and the Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe which had a very special place in her heart.  She served for many years as a member of the Guadalupana Society with whom she traveled to many shrines and to the Papal Mass held by John Paul II, in San Antonio, TX.

She was very proud of her Mexican-American heritage and of being an independent woman who could be counted on in any situation.  She tried to live her Christian faith every day and was a dedicated voter which she also felt was very important.

Though she never married and had children of her own, she was an extremely dedicated aunt to her many nieces and nephews and their children as well.  She was generous, loving, caring, and kind and could always be counted on to make you feel better after your parents disciplined you.

She outlived all of her brothers and sisters, living more than 25 years longer than her last remaining sister and in the later years of her life dedicated herself to helping her many nieces and nephews in any way that she could. She loved all of her nieces and nephews very much and took much comfort in knowing that they loved her in return.  She was grateful for the blessing of a long life and was prepared to once again be with her beloved parents, brothers and sisters.
