GEORGE LEE GARDNER

February 22, 1936 — June 4, 2023

George Lee Gardner, a dedicated civil servant, peacefully passed away on June 4 2023. Born on February 22, 1936, in Birmingham, Alabama, George's unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his country defined his remarkable life.


After graduating from Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama, George embarked on a distinguished career of service. He honorably served in the United States Air Force for a decade before transitioning to the United States Postal Service, where he diligently worked for an impressive 58 years until his well-deserved retirement.


Described as a loving father and a steadfast protector and provider, George leaves behind a legacy of love and selflessness. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Dr. Traci Petteway, along with six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy and pride.


George was preceded in eternal life by his son Sheldon Gardner and by his parents Annie Sue Gardner and Amos Gardner Sr., who have now welcomed him home.


A graveside service to honor and celebrate George's life was held on July 21, 2023, at the Dallas-Ft Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. The service  commenced at 9:00 AM, providing an opportunity for all who knew George to pay their respects.


As we bid farewell to George Lee Gardner, we remember him for his unwavering love, his strong sense of duty, and the warmth he brought to all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his legacy of kindness and dedication live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his presence.
