Grace Taylor Gilbert was born February 1, 1941, to Melvin Taylor, Sr., and Thelma Fisher in Lubbock, Texas. Her parents preceded her in death, as well as her brothers, Melvin Taylor, Jr., and Joe Charles Wilson.
She was the eldest child of eight children. She was educated in the Lubbock ISD, where she graduated from Dunbar Senior High School. She later received medical training at All Saints Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, where she became a licensed LVN. She was dedicated to her husband and family with a strong faith in God. The oldest and strongest of us all, the pride of where we come from, and a matriarch of who we are.
Grace married Fred D. Gilbert in 1980. They were married 38 years. She worked as a nurse for 40-plus years, absolutely loving what she did, and always helping others, especially her family. Outside of unconditionally loving her family was her love for her beloved pets.
On Friday, May 18, 2018, at 5:00 a.m., while a patient at Community Hospice House, the Master quietly gathered this angel in His arms and whispered, “Servant, well done.” She leaves to cherish in memory: her husband, Fred D. Gilbert; daughter, Dorcas Perkins; son, Gary Taylor; beloved pet, Missy; sisters, Temple Taylor, Phillis Dunnington (Robert), Beverly Wilson, LaPaula Taylor and Cynthia Wilson, all of Fort Worth, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved, and for that, she will always and forever be loved and will never be forgotten.
