IVA YOLANDA HUGHES-BYRD

Iva Yolanda Hughes-Byrd, born on September 16, 1948, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025. A cherished individual, Iva was known for her strong and direct demeanor, balanced by a loving spirit that touched the lives of many around her.

She was a talented cook, often delighting her family and friends with her culinary creations. Iva had an infectious love for life and was particularly known for her generosity, often presenting thoughtful gifts to those she cared about. Her enthusiasm for technology was evident; she embraced the latest innovations with open arms.

Iva had a spirited passion for politics and news, which was further reflected in her active membership in the Black Panther Party. Her strong convictions were matched by her love for her community, family, and her church, where she found solace and strength in her faith. Throughout her younger years, Iva also found joy in tennis, showcasing her competitive spirit and dedication to the sport.

Her love for her family was immeasurable, and she held a special connection with her pastor, demonstrating her deep commitment to her church community. Iva’s personality shone brightly in her affection for chicken, a dish she mastered as part of her cooking repertoire, and her excitement for driving her beloved Porsche.

In honor of Iva's life, family and friends are invited to gather during the viewing on January 26, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Golden Gate Funeral Home, located at 4155 South R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas, 75224. The funeral service will be held the following day, January 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the New Covenant Christian Fellowship Church, situated at 2025 West Wheatland Road, Dallas, Texas, 75232.

Iva Yolanda Hughes-Byrd will be deeply missed, but her legacy of strength, love, and generosity will forever inspire those who had the privilege to know her.
