James W. Daniels was born in Red Springs, North Carolina on August 19, 1941 to the late Mr.
James Nathaniel “Pete” Daniels and Mrs. Gennie Kelly Daniels.
James received his education at Oakridge High School, City College of Chicago and the University of Maryland.
He served his Country in the United States Army from December 1963 – January 1993. From his initial tour of duty to honorable discharge/retirement, details have included First Sergeant Major, Field Artillery Senior Sergeant, Instructor and Drill Sergeant and three tours in Vietnam.
James received the following honors: National Defense Service Metal, Overseas Service Ribbon w/Numeral Four, Overseas Service Bars-3, Noncommissioned Officer Professional development Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal-8, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal w/One Silver Service Star, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Bronze Star Medal w/Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation w/Palm, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation w/Palm, Army Achievement Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster and Expert Rifle M16 and a .45 Cal Piston.
James was a proven, dedicated, and effective leader serving in the following capacities: President of the Wellington Park Homeowner Association, a former board member of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, Lancaster Education Foundation Board Member, Bond Oversight Committee Member, Back the Blue Committee, Board member of the Lancaster Parks and Recreation Center, Graduate of the Leadership Southwest Class of 2005, and the 2006 Charter Review Committee. James served on Lancaster City Council from 2004 to 2016 during this tenure he served as Deputy Mayor Pro Tern District 4 in 2012 and Mayor Pro Tern District 4 in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
James united in holy matrimony with Cassandra on May 7, 1999.
Being strong in his faith, James was a dedicated members of the Harvest Time Community Church, James was a Deacon and administrator to Pastor Keith Whitley.
He was preceded in death by his mother Gennie Daniels, father James Daniels, two sisters Stella Daniels and Rosa Lee Daniels, three brothers, Terry Daniels, Jessie Daniels , and William Daniels all of Fayetteville North Carolina.
He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Cassandra Daniels of Lancaster Texas, three sons James Fenimore Daniels, Gregory Daniels and Tony Fletcher, one daughter Cassandra C. Daniels, and one step-daughter Cheryl Gilmore, one sister Willow Mae Daniels, four brothers Larry Daniels, Gary Daniels, Jerry Daniels and Harrell Daniels, all of Fayetteville North Carolina, One God Child Robert Jackson: seven grand children and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
