James Rogers Lacy Jr., born on December 7, 1956, in Jacksonville, Texas, embarked on his journey through life with an infectious smile and an indomitable spirit. A beacon of intelligence, care, and warmth, he graced the world until his departure on August 26, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. James wore many hats throughout his life. Not only was he a dedicated counselor within the Austin school system—nurturing young minds with empathy—but he also held the esteemed position of President and CEO at Neches Energy Resources, where he utilized his deep understanding of geology through his affiliation with LGT Corp, a firm specializing in geology and geophysics. He was owner of several businesses throughout the years.
Growing up on a farm imbued James with a love for nature and animals, laying the groundwork for memories rich with adventure and joy as he visited his grandparents. Such idyllic days shaped his caring persona, seen throughout his life in small, meaningful acts of kindness that endeared him to many. A proud alumnus of Jacksonville High School, he later earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University, a testament to his commitment to understanding the human condition.
James was much more than his accomplishments; he was a friend and confidant, possessing a personality that radiated friendliness and intelligence. He approached life with an unwavering smile, rarely yielding to the burdens of complaint. His passion for socializing meant that gatherings of friends were often filled with laughter, engaging discussions, and the delightful company of good food—one of his cherished pleasures. An ardent reader and a lover of technology, he continually sought knowledge, delving into books and computers as a form of enrichment that fed his soulful curiosity.
Alongside his many accomplishments, James fondly remembered the momentous pledge of his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, during his college years, a milestone that reflected his dedication and sense of belonging. He built lasting relationships and fostered bonds that were significant and meaningful, speaking volumes of his character.
A man who loved dogs, his heart mirrored the unconditional affection of his four-legged companions. James left an indelible mark on all who knew him, threading kindness and integrity into the lives of others. He will be mourned deeply but celebrated by mother 93, Theresa Lacy, and sister, Jennifer Wesley (Noble) and a host of relatives and friends through of memories he cultivated throughout his remarkable journey.
