James Martin, born on May 7, 1948, peacefully departed from this life on January 8, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy defined by strength, hard work, and an infectious passion for life. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A man admired not only for his accomplishments but also for the warmth and kindness he consistently displayed to those around him.
A devoted basketball fan, James played college basketball at Union College in Tennessee, igniting a lifelong love for the game that he shared with family and friends. Known affectionately by his nickname, Smoke, he embodied the spirit of camaraderie and joy, often becoming the life of the party wherever he went. His engaging personality made him easy to talk to, and he was always a good listener—a rare quality that endeared him to many.
James was a true man’s-man with strong convictions and an unwavering faith in the Lord. His intelligence and charm were matched only by his good looks and quick dance moves. A jack of all trades, he was admired for his versatility and capability in numerous endeavors, indicative of his strong work ethic.
James’s family and friends will remember him not only for his remarkable talents and passions but also for the love he showed them throughout his life. He was cherished deeply and will be sorely missed. He will be affectionately remembered by his wife as Triple L
Services honoring James Martin will be held at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Fort Worth, Texas. A viewing is scheduled for January 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Following this, a funeral service will be conducted at East St. Paul Baptist Church, also in Fort Worth, on January 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The family invites all who knew him to come together to celebrate the remarkable life he led.
