Rev. James Thompson Williams Jr., a devoted son, father, and friend, departed this world on September 11, 2024, in his beloved hometown Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on July 27, 1937, in the same city that would cradle his heart throughout his life, James was more than just a campus monitor with the Fort Worth Independent School District; he was a beacon of laughter and a presence of warmth in his community.
James was a proud graduate of I.M. Terrell High School, furthering his education at Butler College and Prairie View A&M University. The milestones of his life were marked not just by educational achievements but by the cherished moments he celebrated, especially his graduation and wedding day, which remain etched in the hearts of those who loved him. He often embodied an unassuming sincerity, declaring, “What you see is what you received,” a testament to the straightforward and affectionate nature that allowed him to never meet a stranger.
While the echoes of the Cowboys winning the Super Bowl bring back joyous memories for many, James was the kind of man who kept his family's spirits soaring with laughter regardless of the occasion. He possessed a remarkable ability to draw light from any moment, turning everyday experiences into stories worthy of smiles and giggles. His zest for life created a vibrant tapestry of memories treasured by his family, who will carry his spirit forward.
He is survived by his devoted children, Jeresa Gayl Bradley, Sherry Shaw, Larry Woods, and James T. Williams III, who count themselves lucky to call him 'Dad.' They will forever remember the lessons he imparted, the joy he shared, and the unyielding love that surrounded their lives.
James now joins those who passed before him, including his father, James T. Williams Sr.; his mother, Artie Lee Williams; his beloved wife, Rev. Claudia Williams; and his son, Anthony Williams. Together, they await joyous reunions and shared memories that transcend time.
His life will be honored with a viewing on September 26, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Golden Gate Funeral Home and Cremation, located at 5701 East Loop 820 South in Fort Worth. Following this, a Wake Service will take place later that day, starting at 7:00 PM and concluding at 9:00PM at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, 3732 Miller Avenue. The Funeral Service will follow on September 27, beginning at 11:00 AM, also at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church.
James Thompson Williams Jr. was a remarkable man whose laughter and love will echo through the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. As we gather to celebrate his life, we reflect on the joy he brought and the legacy of kindness, humor, and strength that will endure forever in our memories.
