James D. Washington was born October 17, 1943, in Burleson County, Texas to David Washington and Dora Carter. He attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in College Station, Texas and shortly after graduating, he joined the United States Army where he served over 15 years for his country. James was a member of Greater Ideal Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Stevens S. Sims.
James had a keen sense of humor and genuinely enjoyed life to the fullest. He also was best known by his family members as “Reverend James” or “Deacon James” and better yet the “Karaoke Kang.” He was a TRUE Johnnie Taylor fan who enjoyed listing to his music and singing his favorite songs. There was one song that he enjoyed playing repeatedly by Johnnie Taylor and that song was Too Many Memories. Although music was one of his loves, he also had a big passion of love for the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers among many other hobbies.
And on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, James went home to Glory where his siblings, Shirely Mae Brooks, Franklin Washington, Kenneth Roy Ray, and his parents along with other family members were waiting for him to join them in Heaven.
James fondly leaves behind his memories to his two sisters, Lucille Young of College Station, Texas and Lorine Washington of Lancaster, Texas. One son and one daughter, Bobby and Sandy Washington of Bryan, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives, and friends to mourn his passing. And a special thank you to the Methodist Transitional Care Center Facility Team, and Aventi Reed (Black) for being a good friend.
