JESSE MORRIS JR

December 14, 1979 — September 12, 2022

Jesse Lynn Morris, Jr. was born on December 14, 1979. He was the first born to his parents Jesse and Annette Johnson Morris. Shauna Morris his sister was born 4 years later. She called her big brother ‘Bubba’ and at times they fought like cats and dogs but they loved each other very much. Jesse was introduced to the word of God at an early age by his family. He lived the beginning of his life in Texas and attended several local schools. He graduated from O.D. Wyatt High School in 1998 and that same year he was officially inducted into the United States Navy to begin his 20-year career serving his country. Jesse was sent to the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois where he successfully completed basic training. During this time, his gift of leadership started to emerge and he was chosen as the squad leader for his fellow recruits.

After basic training he was stationed in San Diego, California where he met Tasha Spann, his former wife. To this union was born Aminah and Anthony Morris along with their older siblings Ke’Ajanaeh Stokes and Ju’Shawnte Spann. During Jesse’s time in San Diego he was assigned to the USS Boxer in 1999. As a part of the Pacific Fleet, he was also assigned to the USS Kidd in 2006 where he served an important role of a Boatswain’s Mate, which involved assisting in small boat operations, boarding parties, and search and rescue. During the commissioning of the USS Kidd he was chosen to blow the Boatswain’s Pipe to signal his fellow sailors to the rails of the new ship during the ceremony. Jesse had several important deployments throughout his 20-year career and traveled all over the world to many different states and countries like Singapore, Guam, Hawaii and Afghanistan. He also had a brief assignment at Ingleside Navy Base in Texas and as result of his hard work and dedication to service, Jesse achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer on September 16, 2011, and he was very proud of this significant accomplishment.
