Johnny Lee Copeland, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 23, 2024 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 83. Born on April 3, 1940, in Emerson, Arkansas to his proud parents Bennie and Jessie Copeland.
Johnny had a remarkable career as a supervisor at DART for 27 years. He was known for his dedication and hard work which earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. In addition to his work at Dart, Johnny was a self-employed owner and operator of Johnny's Automotive. His expertise in fixing cars was unparalleled. Johnny had a heart of gold and he would often go out of his way to help others by giving away cars that he had fixed.
Outside of his career, Johnny had a vibrant personality – he was funny and a great storyteller. He could captivate an entire room with his wit and charm. Spending time with him was always filled with laughter and joy. Johnny loved surrounding himself with loved ones and cherished every moment spent with family and friends.
Johnny's hobbies included playing Dominoes and Poker. He was always up for a friendly game and enjoyed the company of those who shared his passion for these games of skill.
Johnny was a Vietnam veteran who served as a Staff Sargent in the U.S. Army. Johnny served his country with honor and courage. His military service exemplified his deep sense of patriotism and commitment to protecting the freedoms we hold dear.
Johnny’s loving wife Mary Copeland, who stood by his side through thick and thin and Parents Jessie and Bennie Copeland preceded him in death. Their love was an inspiration to all who knew them. He is survived by his two sons Fred and Ostby, daughter Freeda, special friend Liz Watson, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on February 3rd, Greater New Zion Baptist Church 2210 Pine St. Dallas, Texas 75215. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, and friends and family are invited to pay their respects. The memory of Johnny will forever be etched in our hearts, and this service will provide an opportunity for all who loved him to celebrate his life and mourn his passing together.
Johnny Lee Copeland will be greatly missed, but his legacy of kindness, laughter, and genuine love for others will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
