JOYCE CHEW

Joyce Chew was born January 5, 1946 to Lucile and Forest Jones in Victoria, TX. Joyce was the first of four daughters. Joyce spent her first 13 years in Victoria, TX. She attended FW Gross School until 1959 and graduated from Victoria High School in Victoria, TX in 1964.

Thereafter Joyce traveled the world with her family. Her father was in the US Air Force traveling to Alaska, Maine, Missouri and Italy. Joyce attended Durham Business School in Victoria, TX and Grandview, Missouri. Joyce graduated from El Centro College in Dallas, TX. While in Victoria, Joyce was the first black employee to work at First National Bank in the loan department (1968 – 1969).

Joyce united in Holy Matrimony with Billie Chew in 1971 at St Peters Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Cube Charleston in Victoria, Texas. When Joyce and Billie moved to Washington, DC, Joyce worked at a bank. After they moved to Dallas, Joyce worked as a Management Assistant for the US Federal Government in the Department of Defense. Joyce was a faithful member of Friendship West Baptist Church since 1996.

Joyce was preceded in death by mother Lucile Jones. In addition to her husband Billie, she leaves to mourn two daughters Staci Chew and Kristi Chew (Lancaster, TX), father Forest Jones (Victoria/Arlington, TX), three sisters Llewelyn Marsh (San Antonio, TX), Arminda Grissett (Anthony - Arlington, TX) and Carol Williams (Michael - Austin, TX).

Joyce has 5 grandchildren - Ashlynn Chew, Brycen Chew, Zoey Chew, Laila Marie-Simone Chew and Zy Whitfield. Sister-in-law Helen Nichols (Las Vegas, NV), special aunts Berneal Jones (Victoria, TX), Sally Jones (Hitchcock, TX), Verdia Tillis (Los Angeles, CA), uncles Cube Charleston (Prairie View, TX), Ivison Jones (Texas City, TX), Fred Woods (Fort Worth, TX) and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
