On October 3, 1936, in Nacogdoches, Texas, a beautiful bouncing baby girl made her debut entrance to Lula M. Ford and Clark Ford. What a delightful child she was, strong and pleasant. They chose to name her Joyce Vernell. Joyce in Hebrew means "Lord" and this name is described as gentle, sensitive, and intuitive. As Joyce grew, she lived up to all and became an extremely strong and smart young lady.
Joyce was an intelligent lady who had an entrepreneur mind and spirit long before she realized it. She was a go getter and allowed nothing to stand in her way. Later in life she married the love of her life, Marvin Patton and together they raised four beautiful girls named Fannie, Sandra, Wanda, and Courtenay in Fort Worth, Texas. In all they did they put God first and this is how they lived and trained their daughters also.
She accepted Christ and became dedicated serving member of Rising Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ralph Emerson. Joyce became a business owner and operator of Forest Hill #1 Beautique where she and other ladies adorned many women and men's hair daily. Joyce loved her customers and they loved her. She made them feel at home and welcome always. When you sat in her chair with your head held low, she always had an encouraging word to speak to uplift your spirits and when you left there was nothing less than smiles. She always greeted her customers with a smile and hug. Her family loved her, and she greeted them with hugs and kisses also. She was an excellent cook and welcomed anyone who stopped by their home. Joyce had a sweet personality and extended her hands to assist anywhere she could.
Her family and salon were a big part of her life and she balanced it well as a business owner, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was loved by all who had the pleasure Not worth to grace her path. She was a member of the Fort Worth Hairdressers & Cosmetology League and Texas State Association and Beauty Culture. She held the position of Vice President for a short period of time and worked on various committees. She was recognized and honored with many prestigious awards in her life career. Joyce lived a full life and traveled with her family often. She was life, laughter, and love.
On Wednesday, December 29, 2021 @ 9:01 a.m. she saw the rising of the sun, but God called her name before the setting, so she answered the call.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Lula and Clark Ford, her love/husband, Marvin Patton, and five siblings, Merel Patton, Barbara Moore, McGale Ford, O'neal Ford, and Charles Ford.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: two loving and devoted daughters, Wanda Mosley, and Courtenay Patton ( Marion McElroy); two stepdaughters, Fannie Davis and Sandra Harvey (Ed); three grandsons, Brandon Turner (Sheena), Cameron Patton, and Tristan Mosley, three step grandchildren, Jenisia Anderson, Adriane Hickman, Roderick Davis, and six great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.
