JULIA WALKER

November 24, 1955 — June 26, 2021

Julia “Nan” was born November 24, 1955 in Frederick, Oklahoma to the late Clarence and Myrtle Walker.  She departed this life June 26, 2021.

Nan accepted Jesus Christ at the age of twelve and was a life-long member of The Church Of The Living God.  She began her service at Temple # 219 in Fredrick, OK.  She served in the local Sunday School, Young Peoples Progressive Union (Y.P.P.U.), Jr. Usher Board and the local and District Jr. Choirs.  After relocating to Dallas, she moved her membership to Temple #145 and served in multiple auxiliaries and ministries.  She was a member of the Spiritual Wonders singing group, the Women’s Ministry where she served as President, Parliamentarian,  and Volunteer Coordinator. She served as Y.P.P.U. Sponsor, Greeters President, member of the Sunday School and Number 2 Usher Board which was her passion.

Nan grew up in Frederick where she graduated from Frederick High School in 1974.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising at Texas Christian University in 1980 and was a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She pursued a career as an Education Specialist in Retirement Services with Mass Mutual where she retired after 16 years.

She was active in the community, volunteering with the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Team, the Salvation Army, and AIDS Resource where she provided food and assisted with daily living activities to AIDS patients when very little was known about the disease or how it was contracted.  She was active with the Boyd Alumni and Former Students Association in Frederick, OK.  She was secretary for many years and Vice President 1 year.

Nan was smart, witty and could always laugh at herself.  She lived and enjoyed life to the fullest.  She traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad.

She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Myrtle Walker and a sibling, Charles Bennett.  She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy four sisters, Barbara Smith, Virginia Walker, Sharon Fuller (Russell, Sr.) and Kimberly Walker, all of Dallas, TX along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, three special friends Winnifred Adams, Carolyn Mayes and Gwen Scypion and other friends who she deeply loved and cherished.
