Laverne Johnson was born July 1, 1950, to the late Paul Hooper, Jr., and Carmen R. Hooper in Dallas, TX. On Friday, May 4, 2018, God elevated Laverne from earthly service to
heavenly reward. She confessed Christ at an early age at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.
Laverne was educated in the DISD, where she attended James Madison High School. In 1970, she married Walter Johnson, Sr., and from that union came one child. Laverne loved the outdoors, planting, dancing and spending time with her family. She was employed with the Dallas Convention Center for ten years and later went to work for the Wilmer-Hutchins
Independent School District at Bishop Heights Elementary School, in janitorial service, until taking ill. She also established a new life with William Earl, which lasted for 36 years. She had
five step-children. Laverne enjoyed seeing her grand- and great grandchildren grow.
Laverne is preceded in death by her father, Paul Hooper, Jr.; mother, Carmen R. Hooper; life partner, William M. Earl; sisters, Vera D. Caldwell, Louise Holt and Evelyn Goodman; brothers,
Charles L. Hooper and Paul W. Hooper; one niece, Andrea White; two nephews, Clerus Bryant and Fredrick Williams; godsister, Sarah Peterson; and goddaughter, Renee Harper.
She leaves to cherish: one daughter, Lisa Levy (Keith); five step-children, Kevin Earl (Keisha), Marcus Earl (LaCheryl), Patrick Earl, Kathie Earl and Lashanna Earl; four grandchildren,
Tyrone Johnson (Jocylyn), Latoya Thomas (Joe), Eric Thomas and Dameion Crutchfield; a host of great-grandchildren; goddaughters, Shenickle, Pennie, Alta, April, Nicole, Trice,
Katina, Michelle, Terrie and Sharlard; godsons, Walter, Jr., Tracy, Jermaine, Keith Polk, and Rodgerick Peterson; four sisters, Patricia Washington, Julie Tyler, Alneda Jones and Sharon Blair;
three brothers, Alvin Hooper, Sr., Paul Blair and Nathan Taylor; godsisters, Joann Westbrooks, Linda Watson, Alice Mccoy, Patricia Garrett and Alice Robinson; special friend, Billy; and a
host of other family members and friends.
