Loretta B. Seaton-Benjamin
January 25, 1954 - June 30, 2022
Loretta B. Seaton-Benjamin was born January 25, 1954, to Joe and Charlene Seaton in Chicago, Illinois. Loretta always had a thirst for knowledge and upon completing high school (William Rainey Harper High School) she went on to the College of Automation where she earned a certification for data entry. Upon receiving her data entry certification, she was gainfully employed by U.S. Steel.
While employed at U.S. Steel she met her first husband Kenneth Miller and to this union they were blessed with a son (Justin Miller). In 1986, Loretta joined the Chicago Police Department and graduated from the Police Academy in 1987. During her 20-year career with the C.P.D. Loretta worked as a Patrol Officer in the Gangs Crime Unit. Loretta mentored Chicago Public School students in the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program better known as G.R.E.A.T. Loretta truly loved her time on the force as well as the many fellow officers that she worked with, forming long lasting friendships. Loretta later went on to complete her B.A. degree with highest honors in Criminal Justice from Lewis University.
Loretta confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Chicago under the leadership of Rev. Thomas Davis. She later joined Monumental Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Craig M. Smith. Her membership continued; when Pastor Smith founded Freedom Baptist Church in Hillside, IL.
Loretta met Roosevelt “Buzz” Benjamin who was a Dallas police officer and fell in love. They were married April 13, 2004, and resided in Dallas, TX until his death. Loretta then moved to McDonough, Georgia to be close to her granddaughter Alyssa Faith Miller and her daughter-in-love Violet Miller where she resided until her death. While residing in Georgia, Loretta became a member of Tabernacle of Praise International under the leadership of Pastor T.J. McBride.
Loretta had an amazing love for GOD, Family and her Friends. She loved her yearly trips to Las Vegas, New Orleans, Tunica and her annual December trips with her “We Be Trippin’ Travel Family.” Anyone who knew Loretta could attest to the fact that she loved to travel and she enjoyed her life to the fullest. Loretta will truly be missed.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband (Roosevelt “Buzz” Benjamin), her son (Justin K. Miller), her mother (Charlene Seaton) and her stepson (Retric Benjamin).
She leaves to cherish her memory, her father, Joe H. Seaton, Chicago, IL; her granddaughter, Alyssa Faith Miller; her daughter-in-law, Violet Miller, her siblings: Joseph (Angela) Seaton, South Holland, IL; Patricia Seaton-Garrick and Jacqueline (James) Seaton-Brown, Chicago, IL; Kenneth Seaton, Oklahoma City, OK; Derrick (Sherry) Seaton, Forney, TX; her stepson, Jason Benjamin; Mesquite, TX; her nieces and nephews; Darryl Seaton, Jessica Miller, Kenneth Hoosier, Stephanie Winfield (Chicago, IL), Danielle Seaton (Lewisville, TX), Jeremy Seaton (Baton Rouge, LA), Zoe Miller, Nicholas Seaton-Garrick (Chicago, IL) and Jeremiah Cook (Wichita Falls, TX). Sister-in-laws: Virgie Rogers (Natchitoches, LA), Bobbye (Emmett) Granville (Oakland, CA); brother-in-law, John W. (Barbara) Benjamin Sr.; grandchildren: Christopher, Micah, Braden and Brynlee. Her special aunts and uncles: Flora (Tony) Johnson-Walker, Leguster (Mary) Seaton, Charles (Edna) Seaton, Langdon (Helen) Seaton, Goldie Randle, Velma Seaton, Pearl (Sid) Powell, Dessie (Pamella) Seaton and Tony Rivers. As well as, a vast number of beloved cousins and friends.
