Louis James Burton was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on June 29, 1944.
As a child, he moved to San Antonio, Texas and graduated from St. Peter Claver School. After high school, Louis worked several jobs, but his passion was cooking. He worked as a chef for the majority of his life first cooking at Turtlecreek Country Club in San Antonio, Texas. He later moved to Dallas, Texas and called this home for over three decades until his death. During his many years in Dallas, Louis worked as a chef at both the Dallas Country Club and the Royal Oaks Country Club.
Louis was affectionately known as Red Rooster by his neighbors and friends. Red (or Rooster as most called him) loved the Dallas Cowboys, cooking, and being around his family and friends discussing sports and cars, as well as cooking and sharing recipes.
Louis is proceeded in death by his mother, Gracie Allen, father Oscar Burton, and nephew Jason Sandles.
Louis was survived by his longtime girlfriend, Aurora Florez; his sons, Raymond (Sharon) Gibson, Richard (Stephanie) Burton and Peter Burton; his sister, Roxie Woods; 2 grandchildren, Byron Shields and Esther Burton; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces, Felicia Sandles and Andretta Woods; and a host of other family and friends.
