Marilyn (Oliver) Halton, loving mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022. Marilyn was born March 8, 1954, in Dallas, TX to Gretchen and Johnny Oliver as the second of three children. She graduated from South Oak Cliff High School Class of 1972 and went on to attend the University of North Texas where she graduated with a degree in Education. She received her master’s degree from Prairie View A & M University in Prairie View, TX. During her time at North Texas, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Marilyn worked for Dallas Independent School District (DISD) for over 43 years as a dedicated teacher and counselor. During her professional career, she received numerous awards including Teacher of the Year. After retiring from DISD, she continued her love for education by serving as a substitute teacher. Additionally, she served as an ardent volunteer for the Desoto Chamber of Commerce.
Marilyn attended Beckley Heights Church of Christ for over 45 years. If there is a lesson to be learned in her passing, it is one of patience. Marilyn trusted the Lord, as she patiently waited on Him during her time of illness. God rewarded her with a strengthened heart for keeping the faith and being of good courage. Now she is resting, for she labored long in God’s vineyard and her sleep has been well earned.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, and Barbara Worthy (sister). She is survived by her only son Marcus Halton, her brother Gary Oliver, and a host of relatives and friends.
