Marva was born on October 10, 1944 to the late Hobert Douglas and the late Lois Jean Kelley Douglas. To this union another daughter, Barbara was born. When Lois moved from
Powell to Fort Worth she married Will Pettus, who became a perfect stepfather to Marva and Barbara.
Marva joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and later moved her membership to Glen Park Baptist Church before joining St. John Church. She graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in 1963 as the Valedictorian of her class. She was a whiz in mathematics and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics in January of 1967 from the University of Texas at Austin. After graduation, Marva began her career in the Reliability Engineering Department at Bell Helicopter. She worked in other departments over a career that lasted for 47 years. She retired in October of 2014.
Marva stayed in touch with her high school and often attended events sponsored by Bell Helicopter for students interested in engineering. She was also a “super fan” of the Texas
Longhorns. Burnt orange blazer and burnt orange boots were the dress for Saturday football games.
After a hard-fought battle, Marva passed away peacefully on May 7, 2018. Marva was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Lois; and her stepfather, Will. She leaves to cherish her
memories: her husband, Weldon Grovey; sons, James and Aaron Grovey; sister, Barbara Ward (Ed Ward); nephew, Eddie Ward; niece, Kelli Ward; great-niece, Barbara Elena; uncle, Jewell;
and a host of other relatives and friends.
