Marvin Frank Garrett, Jr. was born on November 18, 1963 to the union of Lola McGee and Marvin Garrett, Sr. in Dallas, Texas. He moved to Fort Worth, Texas with his family as a child and later made Fort Worth his permanent home.
Marvin accepted Christ in his life at an early age. He received his formal education in Fort Worth, Texas as a graduate of Polytechnic High School class of 1982. After graduation, he worked alongside his father in the construction industry as a roofer, remodeler, and carpenter. During his time in Fort Worth, he was born a son, Patrick Garrett.
Marvin had an immeasurable love for life and a glowing spirit which attracted many to the joy he exuded and love he shared. Marvin was more affectionately known by his family and friends as Sleepy which later developed into other terms of endearment such as “Sleepy Joe” and “Slept.” He often expressed his charm and bliss through dancing and coined his own personal dance move, well known as the “Slept Rock.”
Marvin Garrett, Jr. departed this life on Thursday, August 26, 2021. He leaves to cherish his memory: son, Patrick Garrett; parents, Lola and Marvin Garrett, Sr.; grandmother, Dorothy Stewart; two brothers, Donnie Reed and Stanley Garrett, Sr. (Barbara); 3 grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
