MORVIN SHUMATE

May 7, 1950 — April 10, 2018

Morvin Shumate was born on May 7, 1950 to Johnnie and Beulah Shumate.  He was raised in Tullahassee, OK.

Morvin was educated in the Wagoner County school system, and in 1968 graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School. He was the captain of the basketball team from 1967-1968.  In 1970 Morvin was drafted into the United States Army.  He served in Artillery and Airborne with 19 completed parachute jumps.

Following his military service Morvin became gainfully employed with Ceco Concrete Construction, where he worked for over 35 years. During these years Morvin started his family.  In 1973 his only son was born. In 1976, he married Ms. Nanci Fryer, and during this union they welcomed two daughters. In 2004 Morvin married Ms. Sybil Duke and the two became one. Their love of God, faith and commitment to each other was the foundation of their marriage.

Morvin was a skilled master carpenter and enjoyed several hobbies. He loved fast cars and faithfully attended NASCAR races.  He was a friend to many and answered to several different names including; Slim, Big Stuff, Big Shu, Shumate and of course Pastor.

In 2008 Morvin retired from Ceco and accepted a position with Potter Structures where he worked for ten years helping create a successful business.  During his professional career, Morvin mentored men and women helping more than 100 people secure employment. He was an encourager and motivator to numerous young men being a respected example of good character.

Morvin accepted Christ in his early thirties. As he grew closer to God he discovered a calling on his life to minister to others.  He became an evangelist and spreading the Word of God became his ministry. He received a Certificate of Ordination in 2008 from the Valley of Faith Christian Center.

In 2011 Morvin founded the Shepherd’s Fold church.  As Pastor, he implemented various ministries including the Family Time Prayer Line held each Saturday morning and It is Written Ministry held on Tuesday evenings.

On April 10, 2018 God called Morvin home.  His wife, children and brothers were by his side.

Morvin is preceded in death by his mother, father, brothers; Johnnie Shumate Jr., Theodes Shumate, George Gordon, sisters; Shirley Shumate, Deloris Zachary, Ruby Pete and Thelma Gordon.

Morvin is survived by his wife Sybil Shumate, children: David Shumate (Janelle), Elizabeth Shumate, Deborah Shumate, stepchildren; Byron Duke, Bryan Duke (Karen), brothers; Marvin Shumate, Donald Ray Shumate, grandchildren: Courtney Hebert (Jason), Destiny Duke, Taylor Shumate, Sydnee Shumate, Miles Jackson, David Shumate Jr., Braylen Duke, Jaxon Duke, great-grandchildren: Kaiden Hebret and Jaxson Hebret, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives.
