For over thirty years, Nancy served at the Calvary Baptist Church in Roosevelt, Long Island, New York in the Pastor’s Aid Club and Willing Worker’s for Christ. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Senior Choir where her silky soprano voice led her to be a sought after soloist. ‘I’ve Got Jesus and That’s Enough’ and ‘He Would Not Come Down From the Cross’ were Nancy’s favorites.
Nancy was a lover of God through Jesus Christ and a Committed Christian. If she were working and the church had an afternoon/evening engagement, Nancy would skip her lunch hour to leave Winthrop University Hospital attend the services. Nancy’s retirement from Winthrop University Hospital allowed her to spend more time pursuing community service, working on political campaigns, voter education and registration drives. Nancy was celebrated as a Shero’ when honored by Sisters In The Struggle
(SiTS) for her dedication and commitment to community empowerment.
Nancy was also quite the fashionista and a serious seamstress! She was pursued not only for choir attire and preacher robes, but also wedding gowns, cotillion and formal attire for women, men and children. The pride and care for her garments was evident in the finished product. Nancy’s garments all were tagged, with a ’Made by Nancy’ label which meant a garment was made to perfection before delivery to the client.
Nancy had an indominable spirit. Her faith in God was unshakeable as she encountered and endured serious health challenges. She was a fighter and didn’t let her disabilities diminish her kind heart or defeat her determination to live independently.
Nancy’s trust in the Lord led her to the Union Baptist Church, Hempstead, Long Island, New York in 2009. Here she served in the Pastor’s Aid, Missionary and Sunday School Ministries until she left New York subsequently joining her son Carlton in Texas.
Once again, Nancy and Carlton are reunited… in Heaven. To God Be All Glory!
