NORMAN LOGGINS II

August 9, 1976 — July 19, 2022

Norman Cedric Loggins, II (Cedric) was born to the late Norman Cedric Loggins and Janice Carter Loggins on August 9, 1976, in Memphis, Tennessee. Cedric was the oldest of two sons born to this union.  His brother, Jayson was born almost six years later in 1982.

Cedric was raised in a Christian home that instilled love, patience, integrity, hope, kindness, respect, etc. Cedric’s paternal grandmother (known as Grandma Loggins) ensured that he attended Vacation Bible School. She would come by and pick up Cedric, Jayson, their younger aunts; as well as his cousins. That experience had a lifelong positive impact on Cedric’s spiritual life.

Cedric was a graduate of Duncanville High School, where he was a proud member of the Panthers football team. Cedric always loved sports, but due to a dislocated shoulder and knee injury in his sophomore year, he had to give up football. He turned that energy into his studies and was awarded a five-year scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin. From a young age, Cedric was very disciplined with his study habits. You would always find him doing his homework or reading a book. His sophomore year at UT Austin, he became a Resident Assistant because of his charming personality and work ethic. Even with that additional responsibility, Cedric graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. In addition, he received acceptance letters from several medical schools in Texas; but chose Baylor College of Medicine where he attended for two years.

During his professional career, he worked at several Staffing Agencies as a Lead Recruiter. In the last year, he was hired to recruit and hire nurses for various hospitals. He truly loved working with placing the nurses and received several bonuses and commendations from the company. Working with people was his strong suit.

Cedric loved life and believed in living it to the fullest. While attending the University of Texas at Austin, Cedric took up skydiving. Because of his love of the sport, perseverance, and passion to succeed at whatever he did, Cedric quickly became certified to jump solo. This fun loving spirit was always there, Cedric's brother (Jayson) recently told his mother of a memory he had of Cedric picking him up from summer track, in their mother's car, driving it as if it was the Batmobile and entering their home's garage as if it were the Bat Cave.

Cedric was brave and independent even as a child. His mother adoringly recalls a time when Cedric was four years old and his paternal grandmother (Grandma Carter) kept him while she and his father went to Dallas to secure accommodations for the family's upcoming relocation. Cedric continually questioned his grandmother on when his mother would be returning. His grandmother told him that his mom would be returning around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Of course, on Sunday he asked her what time it was every hour on the hour. When she finally told him it was 4:00 pm, Cedric gathered all of his clothes into a paper bag and opened the front door and went and sat on the curb in front of his grandmother’s house. Under her watchful eye, Cedric patiently waited with for his mother’s return.

Cedric’s family and friends lovingly knew him for his warmhearted hugs. He just had a way of making everyone feel special and he was truly intentional about connecting with people and making them feel an exceptional bond. Moreover, Cedric understood the importance of spending quality time and creating timeless memories. He was always ready to do whatever it took to make that time more memorable.

On July 19, 2022, Cedric peacefully slipped into the sunset of his days on earth and transitioned into his eternal home with the Savior; however, many will remember his big personality, infectious smile, and tight bear hugs forever.

Cedric has left an indelible impact to be remembered by his mother, Janice Carter, his brother, Jayson Loggins, his five Aunts, Bettye Loggins Smith, Beverly Baker, Carol Phillips, Dianne Carter-Walker, Tamela Carter, Gloria Watkins, his four Uncles, Wallace Loggins, the late Kevin Loggins, John Carter Jr (Linda), and Rodney Carter (Brenda), His 1st cousins: Micralyn Baker-Jones (Curtis), Sean Carter (Traci), Karen Jones (Derick), Steve Baker, Edythe Smith, Amina Smith, Cory X. Loggins (Priscilla), Cameron E. Loggins, Cierra P. Loggins and a host of other family and friends.
