Ozzie Belenzia Applewhite was born to Lurene & Pervis Applewhite, on September 28, 1939, in Homer, Louisiana. Of this union, siblings Leon, Lizzerene, & Clarence were born. Through subsequent unions of her parents, Ozzie was blessed with eight additional siblings: Geraldine, Callyn, Calvin, Ruby, Elmira, Aundraul, Barbara, and Michelle.
Ozzie B. (as she liked to be called), graduated from Homer High School in 1958. In 1959, she married Matthew Smith. From this union, Brenda was born. Years later, she married Isaac McClellan. From that union, Phyllis, Luther, Kenneth, & Isaac F., were born. She would often say that all five of her children were her favorite, but deep down, her kids knew that she was honestly telling the truth.
Ozzie B. received formal training, earned a degree, and continued her studies at Mountain View, & Cedar Valley Colleges in Dallas, TX. Some of Ozzie’s past occupations included working as a teacher’s aide for The Dallas Independent School District, and as an administrative assistant for Occidental Life Insurance, and Sysco Foods. Her true calling was her dedication to helping others. She worked as a private duty nurse, for Visiting Nurses Association, and she was a volunteer for The American Red Cross, for many years. Her favorite occupation was that of the school nurse at Mamie White Elementary School, and Wilmer Hutchins High School. With honor, she held that profession for 32 years.
Ozzie was active in her church and very involved in community service. Her earnest and warm personality was a perfect fit, on her church’s Courtesy Committee, for ensuring that the sick and shut-in members were loved, and always remembered. She performed Vision/Hearing testing at local churches, donated food to outreach programs, and was a member of “The Neighborhood Watch” program. No crimes were ever committed when Ozzie B. was on watch, not a one. She was a member of Hawn Freeway Church of Christ, and in later years, a member of Cliffview Church of Christ. Ozzie B. truly enjoyed all types of gardening, especially planting pink roses. Her favorite color was pink, so she had her home exterior painted pink, and she bought a pink carport - she even wore pink lipstick!
Ozzie loved God, and was a faithful servant, until her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pervis Applewhite and Lurene Applewhite Price, and brothers Leon, and Clarence. She is survived by her children: Brenda, (Greg), Phyllis, (Derek), Luther, Kenneth, (Kimberly), and Isaac F., (LaSharion), siblings: Lizzerene Thomas, Geraldine Rorie, Callyn Applewhite, Calvin Applewhite, Ruby Polk, Elmira Applewhite, Aundraul Applewhite, Barbara Miles, & Michelle Applewhite, grandchildren: Thomas Holbert, Britni McElvy, Taylor McClellan, Isaiah McClellan, Leah McClellan, Isaac T. McClellan, Derek B. Range, & Jaeden Range, great-grandchildren: Harrison Holbert, Brandon McCann, Isaac McClellan IV, and a host of relatives, and friends.
