PASTOR ROBERT CANADY JR, A U.S. Army Veteran, a beloved community leader, devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away on February 25, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on September 30, 1935, Pastor Canady dedicated his life to faith, family, and service, leaving behind a legacy of love and guidance.
For 19 remarkable years, he served as the Founder and Senior Pastor of Sweet Joy Missionary Baptist Church, where he touched countless lives through his compassionate ministry. he spent a decade pastoring South Dallas Missionary Baptist Church, where his words inspired hope and comfort within the community. He was respected not only for his spiritual leadership but also for his passionate advocacy for peace and happiness amongst all.
Pastor was married to First Lady Maude Canady for an extraordinary 67 years. Together they created a nurturing family environment that welcomed all with open arms. As a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, he treasured the moments spent with his family, instilling values of kindness, respect, and faith in the generations that followed.
In addition to his pastoral duties, Pastor Canady was a successful entrepreneur, owning R C Trucking Company. His love for travel was matched only by his loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys, a team he enthusiastically supported through every season.
Pastor Canady's impact extended far beyond his immediate family. He was a loving brother, uncle, cousin, mentor, and friend to many. His door was always open, and he was known for offering wise counsel and unwavering support to those in need.
A viewing will be held on March 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. A funeral service honoring Pastor Canady's life will take place on March 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Friendship West Baptist Church, followed by burial at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on March 10, 2025, at 9:15 AM.
