It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rosland Jean Pollard, a vibrant soul, whose spirit touched the lives of many. Born on January 6, 1957, in the charming town of Marshall, Texas, Rosland embarked on her journey through life with an undeniable zest that illuminated the world around her. A devoted daughter, sister, mother, and friend, she left us on March 12, 2025, in Mesquite, Texas, yet her legacy shall forever remain imprinted in our hearts.
A proud graduate of Pinkston High School, Rosland cultivated a career in Environmental Services, where she exemplified her unwavering commitment to a cause larger than herself. Her strong passion for people and kind, helpful spirit extended far beyond the confines of her profession. Rosland was a loving and nurturing presence, always ready to lend her hand or share a hearty laugh. Her bubbly, feisty personality guaranteed that there was never a dull moment in her company. Those fortunate enough to call her a friend or family member experienced her remarkable ability to uplift spirits, often leaving them in stitches with her infectious humor and quick wit.
Rosland's love for God was evident in all aspects of her life. She possessed an innate spirituality that guided her actions and interactions, providing a profound sense of purpose. With her heart wide open, she embraced all of God's creations and held a special affinity for nature, often expressing her thoughts through the whimsical beauty of poetry. It was through her writings that she captured the essence of her thoughts, inviting others to see the world through her eyes—eyes that recognized beauty in every corner of life.
Cherished by many, Rosland's family will carry forth her legacy with grace and love. She is survived by her beloved children, Vernell Washington, Sherlyn Washington and Marcus Hill. A devoted father, John Pollard, Jr.(Billie), along with her special son, Kerwin Hicks, will forever hold her memory close. Her grandchildren—Taylor, Larry III, Isaiah, Sakeeya, Madison, Kameron, Kendall, and Kerwin Jr.—will remember her as a beacon of warmth and inspiration. Rosland also leaves behind her twin brother, Ronald Pollard (Ozella), whose companionship filled her life with joy and laughter. She also leaves behind her Greenway Park Church Family, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Rosland's cherished presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, including her friends and extended family who experienced her kindness and vivacity. However, she joins her beloved mother, Pearlie Vernell Pollard, and her siblings—sister Johnnie Pollard and brother John Pollard, III—who preceded her in death. The love that Rosland imparted continues to flourish in the memories and stories shared by those who had the privilege to walk beside her in life.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rosland's exceptional life through a Prayer Service at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, located at 4155 South R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX, on March 21, 2025, beginning at 6:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held the following day, March 22, 2025, at Greenway Park Church, located at 2002 Dennison Street, Dallas, TX, commencing at 12:00 PM. As we gather to honor Rosland Jean Pollard, let us remember the beautiful spirit she was—one that danced gracefully through life, leaving all she met feeling a little lighter and a lot happier.
